How Do You Come Up With New Characters?

How do you come up with new characters? I thought about it for a whie, and for me, i am inspired by douchebags. Whenever I meet someone who is a HUGE tool, I end up doing an impression of them. I try to exaggerate their flaws. It's fun. I think its cool to turn your enemies into art. Some people you don't even have to exaggerate much. Some people are straight up characters. Anyway, what inspires you??
